The U.S.S. Maine explodes and sinks in Havana Harbor on Feb. 15, 1898, killing 266 American sailors. The U.S. Congress declares war on Spain. In the first battle between Spanish and American Forces, U.S. Commodore Dewey and his Asiatic squadron defeat the Spanish fleet at Manila Bay in the Philippines. U.S. troops land in Cuba. U.S. forces defeat the Spanish at the Battle of San Juan Heights. The 1st amusement pier opens in Atlantic City, NJ. Automobile speed record set (39 mph)

On Saturday February 25th we will be celebrating our 119th Birthday and holding a Mortgage burning Celebration. We are planning a meal and Sue Barr will provide entertainment. We have also invited dignitaries to join in the festivities. Mark your calendar now.
